DJI Zenmuse P1 Now Compatible With X7 Lenses for Survey-Grade Mapping

DJI has finally added time synchronization and position compensation for the DJI Zenmuse X7 DL 24mm/50mm F2.8 LS ASPH lenses when used with the DJI Zenmuse P1. This means that surveyors can now rely on capturing survey-grade datasets with the P1 using the X7’s 24mm and 50mm lenses.

The DJI Zenmuse P1 full-frame 45MP camera was launched in October 2020 together with the DJI Enterprise DL 35mm F2.8 LS ASPH Lens. There was also promise of the 24mm and 50mm lenses to be made available in the future for the camera. Unfortunately, this never came to fruition and it has been almost two years after the initial launch of the P1 camera.

Some operators of the P1 camera had sought to use the 24mm and 50mm lenses that were specifically made for the DJI Zenmuse X7 camera, which is an older generation camera that was launched for the DJI Inspire 2 and DJI Matrice 200 Series. These older lenses physically fit on the P1 camera and would even function with the P1, but they presented problems with camera calibration and shutter timing which ultimately prevented the P1 from producing survey-grade accuracy when it was not used with the bundled 35mm lens. Therefore, surveyors would altogether choose to avoid using the X7’s 24mm and 50mm lenses.

This has now changed. DJI has finally introduced new firmware for the P1 camera that introduces full support for the X7’s DL 24mm/50mm F2.8 LS ASPH lenses to be used with the P1 for survey-grade photogrammetry.

We will be bundling these in with our DJI Matrice 300 RTK Basic and Advanced Photogrammetry packages, including our Advanced Surveying package very soon.
